The short version
GoodX may suit you better if:
- you want a long-established vendor with integrated medical-aid claims and automated reconciliation available today
- you run a larger, specialist, hospital, lab or bureau setup (GoodX lists all of these practice types)
- you prefer a guided sales demo, installation and training process
Baselayer.med may suit you better if:
- you want to see the price before you talk to sales. Our plans are published: Practice R2 499/month with unlimited users, Solo R899/month for up to 2 users
- you want to try the full platform yourself first, with a 30-day free trial and no credit card
- your priority is a paperless front desk (digital consent forms, kiosk mode, WhatsApp forms) and profession-specific charting, especially in dentistry
- you can keep your current claims process for now. Baselayer.med's electronic medical-aid claims are launching soon and aren't live yet.

Why practices look at alternatives to GoodX
GoodX's public reviews are largely positive about its support and training, and many practices are happy with it. When practitioners do compare alternatives, these are the themes that come up in public sources:
- Price visibility. GoodX pricing is quote-based. One practitioner's 2024 comparison (written by someone who chose a different system) reported a quoted setup fee, a monthly fee, and extra charges for telemedicine links and online payments. Costs vary by practice, so get a written quote.
- Trying before committing. GoodX's contract terms require the installation fee before installation, and the same 2024 review said there was no free trial. Some practices prefer to test-drive with their own team first.
- Front-desk workflow. The 2024 review found the separate booking portal less convenient than an embedded booking page. That's one user's view; see it for yourself in a demo.
What we'd say in GoodX's favour: integrated claims are a core strength today, and they have decades of South African billing experience. If same-day claims are your top priority right now, factor in that Baselayer.med's claims add-on hasn't launched yet.
